Welcome to South Coast Nursing Homes

Ask the important question....

‘What kind of activities, events and entertainment do South Coast Nursing Homes provide in their homes?’

Well take a look at what we have been up to keeping the atmosphere and experience in all our homes stimulating, fun, interesting and relevant.

Every home has its own dedicated team of activities coordinators and welfare managers. They plan daily, weekly and monthly activities for all residents to enjoy.

OwlThis year Berkeley Lodge and Fernbank enjoyed the Birds of Prey show. This exciting and amazing display of real owls was a great hit with all the residents, who were able to touch and hold the birds. Those residents who stayed in their rooms were able to take part as the trained bird handlers took the owls to the rooms of those wished to experience the incredible creatures.

Group of flagsThemed country days are great fun and allow the residents to really get the feeling and flavour of other countries. The countries that have been experienced are Australia, Italy, France, Germany and Egypt. The country day includes themed food and snacks and drinks. The teams decorate the lounges with flags and memorabilia from each country, the entire day is very interesting, different and successful.

Each home has regular visitors who provide much happiness and comfort for our residents. They include, school choirs, pets, magicians, religious services, circus acts, musicians, clothes shops, flower arranging experts and many more.

PianoKeeping our residents minds stimulated is really important and healthy particularly for those experiencing dementia. Specifically they enjoy daily card games, crosswords puzzles, singing and dancing with musicians and karaoke. Creating hand puppets shows and dressing up remembering different eras and past timing are all popular as reminiscing becomes a great enjoyment and reassurance.

PoppyThe time of year triggers all types of great events that the activity teams create fun and entertainment around, a few that very popular are Remembrance Day , St Georges Day, The Queen’s Birthday and most recently the Royal Wedding. Halloween, Easter, Burns Night and Christmas are all great events that are celebrated with all residents who wish to take part.

And for the gentlemen we find more manly activities are a success. The men look forward to snooker and darts, programmes on motor racing and grand prixs. Football and sport quizzes and good old fashioned beer tasting helps the gents to relax.

Cooking and gardening are much loved activities that many residents enjoy. Making mince pies, decorating easter eggs and creating gifts of plants and flowers are lovely for families to see and receive.

..... I hope this snapshot of some of the many things we do with and for our residents helps to answer your important question.
